• Texts in ICAS English are drawn from picture books, novels, poems, play scripts, transcripts of interviews, letters, diary entries, advertisements, webpages, feature articles, opinion pieces and comics. These texts cover a range of topics and may include tables, diagrams, maps and other visual information.
• Text comprehension:

• Writer’s craft:
Focuses on the techniques, devices and choices that writers make to create an effect on the reader, such as literary techniques and devices, tone, point of view, style, audience, or the effect or purpose of tense or different font types.
• Syntax:
Focuses on knowledge of correct syntax, connectives and tense, pronoun referencing, and the uses of different types of punctuation such as parentheses.
• Vocabulary:
Focuses on vocabulary knowledge, both in terms of providing the meaning of a word or phrase and understanding synonyms and antonyms of a word or phrase.
• Students are presented with 6–8 texts, drawn from a wide range of sources (see 內容). Texts increase in complexity, moving from simple and familiar subjects and topics at the start to more complex texts, discussing abstract concepts and using sophisticated language structures.
• Each text has a set of questions that use a variety of online interactions, including multiple choice, free response, drag and drop, checkbox, gap match, text spot, and multiple choices question types.
